Consistency compounds.

I am learning that on my fitness journey, and applying it to every other aspect of my life.

I am diving back into a habit that once changed my career: posting every single day.

I have treaded on this journey before. Back in January 2022, I landed a client that pushed me to learn so much that I was writing daily technical posts on my personal blog.

The impact was faster than I expected. In February, I attended the iOS Happy Hour meetup. To my surprise, people there already knew me. They recognized me as "that guy who has been writing every day about iOS development." Consistent posting had turned me into a known entity in the community in just a month.

Now, I am back in that zone again to recreate some magic with my words. I am committed to daily posts again, and it is reminding me why I chose this post's title: "Exploring Indie Life: Posting Every Day."

The Visibility

Last month, I had an interesting chat with a friend. He said something that stuck with me: "These days, if you do not post on Twitter, it is like you did not do the work at all."

That was a bit extreme. But the more I reflected on my own experiences, the more I saw some truth in it.

We are living in the interent era. Sharing the journey online is like a career cheatcode. I have seen it play out in my own life repeatedly.

Over the past five years, nearly all my clients have come through Twitter and LinkedIn. They are powerful tools if used right.

But you have to be social on social media.

Support Network

I have moved forward with a new life as an independent writer and developer. And slowly realising more about the true value of an audience. Not the number of followers on a screen. The real people across the world who support you through your ups and downs.

By posting every day, I am essentially inviting people to join me on my journey, while providing them value with my content. This support network is invaluable and amplifies the opportunities in the indie game.

Another rewarding part of consistent posting is the friendships I have formed along the way. Genuine relationships with like–minded people who resonate with my work. It is also fun to hangout with them when you come out of the digital world!

Overnight Success

You have probably heard the term "overnight success." I secretly hope to be called that someday.

So that I can smile and look back at all the late nights I spent writing, all the days I pushed through writer's block and frustration of debugging code.

All the times I hit 'post' even when I was not sure if anyone was reading. A day at a time. One post at a time. Word by word.

Increasing Your Luck Surface Area

This tweet by Sam is my MacBook's wallpaper:

Daily posting compounds visibility, showcases expertise, and lead you to doors you might not even know existed.

At first, it does feel like shouting into the void. But it reminds me of the shloka in Bhagavad Gita:

You have the right to work, but never to its fruits. Let not the fruits of action be your motive nor let your attachment to be the cause of inaction.

It is indeed easy to read it compared to applying it to real life. But, I am more than happy to create resources for the future me to refer to, especially technical posts. Or even the newsleters to look back to and see how much I have grown as a person. And you are creating a resource that people can turn to, learn from, and share with others. And even inspire them!

Celebrate the small wins along the way. The first time a post resonates with someone. The day you hit a follower milestone. The moment you realize you have been posting consistently for a month straight. All victories worth acknowledging.

Moving Forward

I encourage you to give it a try. Start small if you need to.

But start.

Post every day.

Share your work, your thoughts, your progress. You might be surprised at where it leads you.
